Walk to Governors bay

Monday the 8th of August dawned and all of Bruce and Pip’s planning was coming to an end it was time for the planned walk to Governors bay. We loaded up the two cars with lunch, tea and coffee, some fizzy, a pack or two of biscuits and of course the residents and staff. There were two car loads. In one car there was Peter, John O and Bruce and of course the driver Pip. In the second car there was Jon B, Wendy D, Pauline, and Sue joined by Gena and Angus coaches and Rachelle our physiotherapist. Angus was the driver of the second car.
We took off on our way agreeing that both cars would travel the same way. Things got a bit confusing when Pip decided to take the wrong turn. The other car continued and made it safely to the starting point. Once both cars arrived was time for a group photo and away walking we went.web story 3.JPG

Jo
n B and Peter quickly took the lead. We continued walking for about half an hour before stopping for a cool drink and a tasty biscuit. After a nice rest we continued walking to the destination of Allandale reserve. We all appreciated the sit down and the chance to have something to eat. We sat at a large picnic table which was ideal for our group. Our lunch menu chosen by Bruce consisted of Bacon and Egg pie, filled rolls and coffee in flasks.
With full bellies we then made plans on what was to happen next. Several of us were tired and did not have the energy to walk back so the decision was made for Pip, Rachelle and the two most able people Jon B and Peter to walk back along the track and get the cars to escort the rest of us home.web story 4.JPG

While waiting the wind picked up so we moved to a more sheltered part and settled into playing some eye spy which everyone appeared to enjoy and the words began to get more and more obscure. Luckily the cars turned up so our brains did not become too taxed. Also just in the nick of time because as soon as we got into the cars the rain started to fall. Overall it was a satisfying way to spend a day and Bruce is already thinking about his next walk to plan.
Bruce would like to thank the staff who helped Pip, Rachelle, Angus and Gena for taking the time to attend and to organise the walk and also to the kitchen staff for the delicious bacon and egg pie!web story 6.JPG
