Rehabilitation

The Laura Fergusson Trust Canterbury Inc provides slow stream rehabilitation for residents who are under a specific contract with the ACC or a rehab contract with the MOH. It is important that our residents have a strong desire to participate in the rehabilitation process. Our therapy team works together with residents to design a rehabilitation programme that is tailored specifically to each person's needs and aspirations. A day-to-day programme is established and activities are carried out with support from rehabilitation coaches. Programmes focus of assisting residents to have ordinary life opportunities in all aspects of daily living, whether this entails re-integration back into the wider community or learning to conduct household tasks independently.

In addition to the day-to-day programme provided at the Trust, every resident participating in rehabilitation has access to:

  • Computer tutoring
  • The gym, pool and recreational facilities at the Jellie Park complex
  • A rehabilitation kitchen, where benches and cooking surfaces are specifically designed to provide easier access for people with impairments
